David Garfield Davies was the son of Daniel and Ruth Davies, of Penclawdd, Glamorgan. He enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Staff/Sergeant Davies successfully completed parachute training and also Glider Pilot training and was posted to B Squadron, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

S/Sgt Davies was killed in action on 25 September 1944, aged 25, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the Missing.
