Arthur Edward Richards was the son of Arthur and Mary Richards, of Ilford, Essex. He enlisted in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Staff/Sergeant Richards successfully completed Glider Pilot training and was posted to F Squadron, 15 Flight, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
S/Sgt Richards was killed in action between 24/25 September 1944, aged 23, he was last seen between Hartensteinlaan and Nassaulaan and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the Missing.
