Gordon Reid was the son of John and Elizabeth Reid, of Cookstown, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, he enlisted in the General Service Corps, and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Reid successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 81, from 6 to 16 September 1943. His course report stated “Keen, enthusiastic parachutist”. He was posted to C Company, 7th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in operation Overlord (Normandy).
Pte Reid was killed in action on 7 July 1944, age 20, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
