Frederic Ernest Kite was the son of Edwin and Bessie Kite; and husband of Jean Kite.He served as a cadet in the Birkenhead School Contingent of the Junior Division Officer Training Corps and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt into  the 10th Battalion King’s Regiment (TA) in November 1933.

While serving in the TA he was promoted to Captain, with The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, in May 1939.

Later, during World War II he volunteered for airborne forces and transferred to The Parachute Regiment in March 1943, subsequently qualifiing as a military parachutist on Course 57 which ran at RAF Ringway from 22 March to 11 April 1943.

He subsequently served with the 5th Parachute Battalion, as part of the 2nd Independent Parachute Brigade, on operations in Italy during 1943-44.

Major Kite died, aged 31 years, on 26 March 1944 while the battalion served on the Cassino front, and is now buried at the Cassino War Cemetery, Italy.
