In 1934 William Jarvie Stevenson enlisted as a regular soldier into The Queens Own Cameron Highlanders and joined The South Staffordshire Regiment in 1940.It is believed that he was serving with 2nd Battalion, South Staffs, when he volunteered for parachuting duties and qualified as a military parachutist on Course 28 which ran at RAF Ringway from 21 to 28 September 1942.
He served in North Africa during Operation Torch with 1st Parachute Brigade, where he was wounded, and rejoined The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders shortly after the end of the war in Europe.
William Stevenson died on 6 November 1955, aged 39 years, while serving with The 1st Battalion Queens Own Cameron Highlanders in Korea.
