Nigel John Douglas Turner, son of Lt.-Col. W. M. Turner, Royal Artillery and Elsa Turner, of Harrow-on-the-Hill, Middlesex; husband of Mercy Turner, of Harrow on the Hill, London was born in 1916. He studied for a BA in history and geography 1934-37.

He was commissioned into the Suffolk Regiment in January 1940. He is listed in The London Gazette as a Lt. transferring to The Parachute Regiment on 15 September 1943. 

Captain Turner died aged 29 on 24 May 1945 whilst serving with The Parachute Regiment in Burma and is buried in Rangoon War Cemetery, Burma.
