Pte Denis George Chidlow was enlisted into The King's Shropshire Light Infantry and later transferred to airborne forces.

He qualified as a miliary parachutist on Course 170 which ran at RAF Ringway from 2 to 12 July 1945 and was initially posted to a Holding Battalion.
