Lieutenant William Francis Digby Radclyffe was the son of Maj Ralph Arthur Radclyffe and Frances Alice Backhouse Radlclyffe, of Romsey, Hampshire, and held Indian nationality when he joined the Army.He became a Lieutenant in the 5th (Frontier Force) Royal Gurkha Rifles before transferring to Airborne service, attached to 153rd (Gurkha) Parachute Battalion. He took part in the Battle of Sanghak, near Kohima, Burma in March 1944.
Lieutenant Radclyffe died on 26 March 1944. He is now buried at Imphal War Cemetery, Manipur State, India.
