Archibald Stewart enlisted in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers and volunteered for airborne forces.
Lance Corporal Stewart successfully completed his glider training, and was posted to A Company, 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers and took part in operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
L/Cpl Stewart was a POW and was killed, along with Pte E Oliver and Dvr A Olsson, during an allied air raid on Thaerstrasse, Leipzig, on 27 February 1945, aged 23. He was given a field burial in Leipzig East Cemetery and re-interred to Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery on 24 May 1947.
