Sergeant Desmond Patrick Barnewall was the son of Maj John Barnewall and Jennie Barnewall, of Campile. Co Wexford, in the Irish Republic. He served with 1st Parachute Battalion and took part in the North African campaign, during Op Torch.Sergeant Barnewall died during the conflict between 23-27 November 1942, aged 25 years old. He is now buried at Medjez-el-Bab War Cemetery, Tunisia.
