Walter Henry Cartwright enlisted into the South Staffordshire Regiment.He volunteered for airborne forces and served with A Company, The 6th (Royal Welch) Parachute Battalion.

Private Cartwright served on Operation Manna (Greece).

He was Killed in Action aged 22 years on 9 November 1945 in Palestine and is buried at Moascar War Cemetery, in Egypt.
