Private Arthur Edwin Harvey served in the 1st Airborne Division, 1st Air-landing Brigade, with the 2nd Bn, South Staffs Regiment at Sicily and Arnhem.
He was amongst the survivors of the gliders dropped short in the sea off Sicily; just about the only story about his experiences that he ever related to any of the family on his return.
He fought as a member of HQ Coy, Signals Pln in Op. Market Garden. Arthur was captured at Arnhem around the 19th of September 1944, and spent the remainder of the War as a POW, latterly imprisoned at work camp Stalag IV-C until May 1945.
After the war, he returned to civilian life as an engineer and settled down with his wife Betty; raising his son Richard, my first cousin, who survives them. He died in 1991.
