Private Valentine 'Val' Lynch, son of William and Elizabeth Lynch, of Edge Hill, Liverpool. He enlisted with the Army on 5 February 1942 and was a member of 1 Liverpool Scottish Regiment. He then volunteered for the airborne forces.
Val successfully passed parachute jump instruction at RAF Ringway on Course 78. This course ran between 14 and 23 August 1943. His jump instructor described Val as an "Average Performer"
He was then transferred to The 4th Parachute Battalion and took took part in the Italian campaign. His entry in Book 12 page 3 of the Transfer and Enlistment Records state Val "Died whilst in enemy hands from S. wound in head. Italy, 20 January 1944", aged 24 years old.
He is now buried at Sangro River War Cemetery, Italy. Grave XI.A.2
