Peter Medhurst enlisted into The General Service Corps and then joined the Parachute Regiment in April, 1946.Sergeant Medhurst was an original member of the 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment when it was formed in Germany.

Sergeant Peter Medhurst served as Platoon Sergeant, Motor Transport Platoon, 1 PARA, when he was tragically killed in a road traffic accident near his home. whilst on leave on 24 July 1954.
