Frederick Augustus Norton, the son of George and Laura Norton was born a British Subject in Quinta das Águas Livres, Belas, Sintra, Portugal in 1914. His wife was Jean Norton, of Newnham Hall, Northamptonshire.Private Norton enlisted into the Royal Army Service Corps and later transferred to Northamptonshire Regiment.

Acting Sergeant Norton was granted a commission as a Lieutenant into the Northamptonshire Regiment in December 1939.

Having served in Burma and with the British Expeditionary Force, Lt Norton volunteered for airborne forces in 1942.

After completing selection and ground training at Hardwick Hall, he was posted to the 3rd Parachute Battalion and attended one of the early parachute training courses at RAF Ringway, the 4th Advanced course from 3 to 7 February 1942, which involved night jumps from the balloon and training to jump alongside arms containers from a Whitley.

He served with 3rd Parachute Battalion as their Intelligence Officer in the North African campaign, during Op Torch.

Lieutenant Norton died on 8 March 1943, aged 29 years old. He is now buried at Medjez-el-Bab War Cemetery, Tunisia.
