John Robert Bembridge enlisted into The Lincolnshire Regiment in February 1944.

He volunteered for airborne forces and qualified as a military parachutist on course 124 which ran at RAF Ringway in July 1944.

Private Bembridge was posted to B Company, The 8th (Midland) Parachute Battalion.

He served in the Ardennes (The Battle of the Bulge), on Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing) and in Palestine.

Sergeant Bembridge was demobbed in April 1947.
