Charles Joseph Gualdi was the son of Enrico and Teresa Gualdi; husband of Iris May Gualdi, of Ilfracombe, Devon. He enlisted into the Royal Ulster Rifles and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Gualdi successfully completed his glider training and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

L/Cpl Gualdi was killed in action on 16 June 1944, aged 27, and was given a field burial at Breville and re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France on 2 July 1945.
