Nicol Blount enlisted in the Royal Indian Engineers in 1945.After completing officer training he was commissioned on 23 March 1946 and subsequently served with 9 Airborne Squadron RE, 6 Airborne Division, in Palestine.
He completed his parachute training in Aqir in June 1947.
