Howard Steven Harris was born and lived in Hall Green, Birmingham. He enlisted in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Staff/Sergeant Harris successfully completed Glider Pilot training and was posted to B Squadron, 4 Flight, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

S/Sgt Harris was killed in action on 25 September 1944, aged 24, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the Missing.
