Joseph Cape enlisted into the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders before volunteering for airborne forces in early 1943.He qualified as a military parachutist on course 49, which ran at RAF Ringway in February 1943. His course report sates: 'No hesitation - good performance'

He was posted to 9 Platoon, B Company, The 5th (Scottish) Parachute Battalion.

Corporal Cape served in Italy, The south of France and on Operation Manna in Greece.

Bren Gunner Cpl Cape was Killed in Action on 18 December 1944, aged 30 and is now buried in Phaleron War Cemetery, Greece.
