Lieutenant John Alexander Daniel Williams of the 83rd Field Regt. Royal Artillery.He underwent parachute training possibly as training as a Forward Observation Officer (FOO) for airborne forces.

Lt Williams suffered a ‘hang up’ on 18 March 1944. His parachute became entangled as he jumped, and Lt Williams was dragged behind the plane.

Although the crew attempted to pull him back in, eventually he was cut loose over Poole Harbour and landed in the water.

It was reported that although he was alive, he died shortly after being picked up in a boat.

Lt Williams aged 25, was buried in his family grave plot at St Columbecille, Ireland.
