Second Lieutenant John Marie Bercot, son of Victor Dennis and Andree Mathilde Bercot, of Filey, Yorkshire, volunteered for The Parachute Regiment and attended course number 93 at RAF Ringway between 29 November and 13 December 1943. Lt Bercot served with B Company, 12th (Yorkshire) Parachute Battalion. He took part in the Normandy campaign.

Lieutenant Bercot died on 22 August 1944, aged 26 years old. He is now buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy.
