Alastair Mortimer Barrass, son of John and Doris Barrass, of Darfould, Nottinghamshire,served with 53rd (Worcester Yeomanry) Airlanding Light Regiment RA during the Second World War.The 53rd Airlanding Light Regiment's first deployment was on Operation Overlord, which marked the start of the liberation of France from German occupation.
Serving in 211 Airlanding Light Battery RA, Lieutenant Barrass went by glider to Normandy D-Day landings on 6 June 1944. He was killed on 10 June 1944, aged 20 years old and is now buried at Hermanville War Cemetery, Normandy.
