Charles O’Hara enlisted into the General Service Corps in November 1942.He was posted to the Royal Artillery and then the King's Shropshire Light Infantry (KSLI) before volunteering for airborne forces in January 1944.
Private O’Hara attended Parachute Training course 102 at RAF Ringway between 7 and 18 February 1944. The course report states; 'Good performer, cool, and confident, very keen.'
He was posted to The 3rd Parachute Battalion and attached to Number 1 Company, 1st Airborne Divisional Signals and was deployed to Arnhem in September 1944.
Pte O’Hara was able to return across the river during the withdrawal on 25/26 September.
Pte O’Hara was demobbed on 3 August 1947.
