Captain Michael Beagley served with the Middlesex Regiment. He was attached to The 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (3 PARA) to take part in the deployment to Cyprus during the EOKA campaign in 1956. He was commissioned as a 2Lt February 1951 and in February 1953 he rose to the rank of Lt. (London Gazette)

Captain Beagley died in a fire in the Troodos Mountains, along with his driver Joe Hawker, during Operation Lucky Alphonse on 17 June 1956, aged 26 years old. He is now buried at Waynes Keep Cemetery, Cyprus.

His obituary in The October 1956 edition of The Pegasus Journal reads:

"The many friends of Capt. Michael Beagley will have read with deep regret of his death during operations in MELF, 17 June 1956. 'Mike' Beagley began his association with airborne Forces whilst still an Officer Cadet at Sandhurst, where he completed the Abingdon Parachute Course in 1950. He joined the 3rd Bn. The Parachute Regiment in the Canal Zone in 1953 after service with his own Regiment. He had at his time of death been with us for over three years, his parachute tour being extended for service in MELF. During this time he had won a special place for himself in the Battalion by his cheerful enthusiasum and good natured approach to problems under all conditions.

His untimely death has been a great shock to us all, and a sad loss to both his own and The Parachute Regiment. To his widow and small son we extend the deepest sympathy of all ranks of the Regiment in their bereavement, and mourn with them the passing of a gallant comrade."
