Alfred William ‘Bill’ Stanton was born in Middlesex in 1928. He joined The Suffolk Regiment as part of his National Service in 1946 and saw active service in Palestine.Following his National Service he enlisted into one of his father’s old regiments, the Royal Scots in 1950.
After leaving the Royal Scots, Bill Stanton enlisted in 10 PARA (TA ) circa 1959/60.
Cpl Stanton died in 1966 when he was caught in an unfortunate accident at the LNER depot at which he was working. A boiler on an engine exploded as he was walking alongside it and he died a week or so later in hospital from his injuries.
He served with 10 PARA until his death and is now buried at Wealdstone Cemetery near Harrow.
