Airborne Assault MuseumGary Alexander Wallace joined 15 PARA in 1974, with his first major exercise Bold Guard (infamous Kiel Canal tragedy). He was part of A Coy until December 1979.
Whilst under training for 23 SAS, he was asked by the Commanding Officer to reform the Assault Pioneers (as A/Pnr Sgt), and worked up to WO2 Asslt Pnr WO. He was later dual roled as the final Company Sergeant Major for Fire Support Company.
In 1993, following the amalgamation with 4 PARA, he continued in the same role until he was seconded to the Brigade Training Team as Senior Instructor for Asslt Pnrs. On trying to return to 4 PARA after his tenure there were no vacancies at his rank, and in 2004 he took a Late Entry Commission into The Scottish Transport Regiment RLC (Hat) as a Captain, in the role of Regimental Signals Officer.
He has also served as Squadron Second-in-Command (2IC), taking over as OC (Major) in 2007, until 2013 before taking over as OC 125 Ration Sqn RLC, where they later disbanded. He then joined 7 Scots Royal Regiment of Scotland as OC Assault Pioneer Training tasked with reforming and training their Assault Pioneer Platoon, this he also carried out simultaneously with 6 Scots, providing training and expertise to both Battalions. Major Wallace finished his time with 7 Scots after over 44 years service. He was proud to have been the highest qualified and most experienced Assault Pioneer in the British Army.
