Alan Thomas Bell served with The 9th (Essex) Parachute Battalion.Captain Bell jumped on Operation Overlord into Normandy on 6 June 1944.
He was wounded in action with a gunshot wound to the left thigh in late June 1944. Capt Bell was taken as a Prisoner of War to Stalag 221 (Rennes Military Hospital).
After repatriation he served in Palestine.
