Private Cyril McLeod Buchanan served with C Company, 1 PARA.He was severely burnt in a tent fire in Dhekelia soon after the Battalion arrived in Cyprus on 8 January 1964.

Pte Buchanan who had been in the tent with others, went back into the tent to rescue Pte Meldrum. Both he and Private Buchanan were flown back to Roehampton hospital in the UK.

Pte Meldrum died on 30 January 1964.

Pte Buchanan died on 12 February 1964 aged 30 years. He was buried at St Mary’s Church, Fort William.
