Robert Edward Smith enlisted into the King’s Royal Rifle Corps before volunteering for the airborne forces.Private Smith attended parachute course 36 at RAF Ringway from 6 to 12 November 1942 and was posted to 2nd Parachute Battalion and took part in Operation Torch in North Africa.
Pte Smith was Killed in Action on 18 March 1943, aged 20. He is commemorated on the Medjez-El-Bab memorial.
