Neil B Smith enlisted in Glasgow with The Parachute Regiment 26 November 1954.

He became a member of 2 PARA and served with them in the Near East, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia and N. Ireland. He left the Army with 'Exemplary' conduct and character assessment 27 April 1976. 

He was awarded a BEM during his service in N.Ireland. He was awarded this just after he had left the Army and is listed in The London Gazette on 12 June 1976.
