John Philip Raynsford Hattrell was the son of John Alexander and Dorothy Hattrell; husband of Hazel Mary Hattrell, of Brookmans, Hertfordshire.After successfully completing his parachute training, Captain Hattrell was posted to the 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment and he served in Palestine.

He died on the 24 March 1947 and is now buried in Khayat Beach War Cemetery, Israel.
