Derek Millington served with Airborne Forces as part of 33rd Airborne Light Regiment Royal Artillery in the early 1950s, taking part in the deployment to the Canal Zone in Egypt.
Derek joined the Royal Artillery as a Gunner in early 1950, and completed his initial training with 37 Training Battery RA. In October 1950, he transferred to Airborne service, completing P Company at Aldershot before travelling to RAF Abingdon to complete his parachute training.
After qualifying on Parachute Course 301 in early December 1950, Gnr Millington was posted to 33rd Airborne Light Regiment RA with whom he served until early 1952, when he returned to 37 Heavy Anti Aircraft Battery RA.
