Cyril Fisher was born and lived in Manchester. He enlisted in the Lancashire Fusiliers, and volunteered for airborne forces.

Staff/Sergeant Fisher successfully completed Glider Pilot training and was posted to D Squadron, Flight 5, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

S/Sgt Fisher was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 24, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the Missing.
