Roderick McCuish was the son of Angus and Kate Mae McCuish, of Dunstaffnage, Argyllshire. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Bombardier McCuish successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2 Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Bdr McCuish was killed in action on 21 September 1944, aged 26. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
