Private Roy Sidney Purnell, son of Sydney Arthur and Elsie Emily Purnell, of Ryde, Isle of Wight. He served with 2nd Parachute Battalion and served in the Italian campaign, before he took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.Private Purnell died on 20 September 1944, aged 24 years old. He is now buried at Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem.
