Lieutenant George Norman Austin was the son of Robert Blacow and May Austin, of St Anne's, Lytham St Anne's in Lancashire. He began his military service with the Royal Artillery, and was commended for an Act of Gallantry on 27 August 1942.He began Airborne service attached to HQ Coy, 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment and took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden. He died on 24 September 1944, aged 24 years old. He is now buried at Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem.
