Stuart Leslie Blatch was the son of Sir William and Lady Madeline Blatch, of Gerrard’s Cross, Buckinghamshire. He was commissioned into the Royal Armoured Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Captain Blatch successfully completed his glider training and was posted to 1st Airborne Division Signals, Royal Corps of Signals, attached H.Q. 1st Airlanding Brigade, and took part in Operation Market Garden, Arnhem.

Capt Blatch was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 23 in a wood on the Pietersberg estate between Sandersweg and Pietersbergseweg and has no known grave.
