Raymond Ackland enlisted into the Army in 1957; his 3 year's service included deployments to Cyprus and Norway.He qualified as a military parachutist on Course 450 which ran at RAF Abingdon from 26 August to 19 September 1957 and was posted to 1 PARA, where he served with Motor Transport Platoon in Headquarters Company and then 3 Platoon A Company as a Bren Gunner.
