Private Henry Bennett originally enlisted with The Beds and Herts Regiment, and served in North Africa before transferring to airborne forces.
He qualified as a military parachutist on Course 104 which ran at RAF Ringway from 21 February to 2 March 1944. He was posted to the Airborne Forces Holding Unit and later transferred to B Coy, 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment (he never liked the term '3 PARA'!) and later fought at Arnhem where he was wounded and taken prisoner.
Henry Bennett survived the war and died in February 1985.
His account can be read here.
