George Sidney Anderson was born and lived in South East London. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Bombardier Anderson successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and was posted to F Troop, 2 Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Bdr Anderson died of dysentery and heart failure in the POW Hospital Bad Soden on 13 March 1945, aged 35. He was first buried in the Bad Soden POW Cemetery (Roll of Honour, 5th revised edition, 2011). He was re-interred to Durnbach War Cemetery on 26 September 1947. Plot Ref:3.D.11.
