Norman H Webb served in the Ox and Bucks Light Infantry during World War II prior to volunteering for service with The Parachute Regiment.

He qualified as a military parachutist in May 1943 and was posted to A Company, 2nd Parachute Battalion.

He deployed with the battalion for the Sicily and Italy landings later that year.

In September 1944 he fought as a Bren Gunner in Operation Market Garden as part of the divisional force tasked with capturing the river crossings at Arnhem.

The 2nd Parachute Battalion was ordered to capture the road bridge and Cpl Webb was badly wounded by 20mm cannon fire during the initial assault.

He was captured and held as a prisoner of war until Spring 1945.
