Private Michael Herwood, son of John and Catherine Herwood, of Dunston, Gateshead, Co Durham, served with 2nd Parachute Battalion. He took part in the North African campaign, during Op Torch.

Private Herwood died on 28 March 1943, aged 25 years old. He is now commemorated on the Memorial at Medjez-el-Bab War Cemetery, Tunisia.
