Edmund David James was the son of Augustine and Ella James, of Penally Abbey, Pembrokeshire. He was commissioned into the South Wales Borderers and volunteered for airborne forces.
Captain James successfully completed his glider training and was attached to HQ 4th Parachute Brigade, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Captain James was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 26, and was given a field burial near the Hartenstein Hotel, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 24 August 1945.
