Edward Brough, son of Earnest and Elizabeth Brough, of Stafford; husband of Maud Brough, of Stafford, enlisted in The General Service Corps and then volunteered for airborne forces.Lance Corporal Brough successfully completed his glider training and was posted to C Company, 2nd (Airborne) battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

L/Cpl Brough was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 26, and given a field burial somewhere along Klingelbeekseweg at Oosterbeek. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 27 May 1946.
