Private Ronald Percy Patterson was born in 1924 to George and Mildred Patterson of Canterbury, Kent.Private Patterson volunteered for The Parachute Regiment and successfully completed his parachute training at Ringway on 25 December 1942. He was posted to the 4th Battalion, Parachute Regiment and took part in the Italian Campaign.

He died on 16 May 1944, aged 20. He is now buried at Cassino War Cemetery, Italy.
