William 'Cosh' Mortimore initially joined up with the Black Watch shortly after VE Day in July 1945. After a year, he transferred to the Royal Hamps in mid-June 1946, before returning to the Black Watch in the Summer of the following year.During three years, he served as part of the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR) in Germany. In July 1950 he joined 3 PARA, with whom he served in the Canal Zone Egypt and was awarded the GSM, finally leaving the services in late-February 1953.
Shortly afterwards, he joined BT and retired after 36 years as an Executive engineer. He now works in Cirencester as a caseworker for SSAFA/FH
