Alfred Henry Greenland enlisted into The Royal Navy in March 1942. During D Day operations his ship was sunk. ‘Harry’ Greenland was fortunately on a landing craft and survived.In August 1944 he transferred to The Royal Welch Fusiliers.
Private Greenland volunteered for airborne forces in December 1944. He undertook parachute jump course 148 at RAF Ringway which ran from 8 – 28 January 1945. The course report states: ‘Pte Greenland: Confident, reliable. Worked hard in spite of broken finger (Hardwick).'
Pte Greenland was posted to The 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (1 Para Bn) and was posted to Palestine.
