Joseph Rawnsley was the son of Ephraim and Doris Rawnsley and husband of Isabelle Rawnsley, of Heckmondwike, Yorkshire.After successfully completing his parachute training, Private Rawnsley was posted to 9th (Essex) Parachute Battalion.

Pte Rawnsley died on 18 April 1945 and is now buried in Hanover War Cemetery, Germany.
