Joseph William Rich was born in Leytonstone on the 11 July 1927.After volunteering for airborne forces, Signalman Rich served with 6th Airborne Divisional Signal Regiment in Palestine.

He was killed by a sniper on 28 March 1948 near Haifa. Sgmn Rich is now buried in Haifa War Cemetery, Palestine.
